Are we getting in our own way?

Mother and Son at OddsDo you shake your head and wonder HOW to get your child/teen to stop their bad habits such as

Getting Homework Done on Time?
Constant Arguing with Siblings/Parents?
Doing household jobs?

TIP 1:
Is there a predictable schedule in the home? There may be some late nights, due to sports or church, but CAN the kids count on a consistent schedule?

Tip 2:  Do you eat dinner together without distraction? That is right, no tv and NO cell phones. If media is involved, it is not dinner, it is “sharing space”.

FACT:  2-3 weekly meals together have been shown repeatedly in the research to reduce drug and alcohol use among teens.

Tip 3:  Are you frequently arguing and making verbal jabs at your spouse, yet wondering why there is so much sibling fighting?

Tip 4:  Do you put off chores and tasks until the last minute, yet become upset when your kids wait until the last minute to do their homework?

Tip 5:  How often do you complain about small tasks, like emptying the dishwasher? Yet, show disappointed or discipline your child if they complain.

Tip 6:  Do you feel unappreciated as a parent? Gauge how many positive vs. negative statements you make to your child/teen.  If you, as the parent, feel unappreciated, odds are, your child/teen feels unacknowledged and unappreciated.
