    Regarding the first part of your solution: we have coached our now 15-year-old daughter (who frequently interrupts) to squeeze our arm as a nonverbal way to let us know she would like our attention. It has worked well overall and I love the second suggestion where you reinforce that you notice their ability to be patient. I’ll definitely try that as well!
